Let's talk about it
with the founder
Rosalie Carn
Having been a part of the film industry for over 10 years, I've often been struck by the fierce competition between women.
The dirty tricks and side-eye glances can speak a thousand words.
SolaireMedia was born with the idea that women can gain more by collaborating than competing with each other.
In 2019, I realized my short film 'Happy Birthday My Love' had 80% of men in the cast & crew - a real representation of the industry! That motivated me to have a better balance for my next projects.
It was challenging for I didn't know many female filmmakers. So I attended meetings, screenings and film festivals to eventually meet women collaborators for my psychological thriller 'The Flip Side'.
If I had been shy and not made a conscious effort my collaborators would once again be what is on the market: men !
With SolaireMedia we figured out that if we wanted the film industry to be more inclusive and to mirror a rich, creative diversity, then we had the responsibility to surround ourselves with these women and men and allow their original visions to emerge.
For me our experience of life is mostly what we choose to recount to ourselves and to others. In some ways we are the story we tell.
exploring...themes
IDENTITY
In my opinion identity is an 'illusion' mostly defined by our believes.
The place we are born, our family, religion, sexual preferences, culture or even the color of our skin should not dictate our 'identity'. I agree with the quote 'I is another' by French poet Arthur Rimbaud, in the sense that there is 'another' within us yet to be discovered and to cultivate as a new fertile land that is at the core of all inspiration.
TIME & MEMORY
Without the remembrance of time we wouldn't recall our tastes, singularities and sense of 'self'.
Cinema has always explored our perception of time. Films often emphasize on the things we choose to forget and the ones we remember which transport us back to our childhood paradise lost in the blink of an eye.
When I write a script and start to think about the best way to tell a story or make a film, I have the odd feeling that I'm not imagining the plot but more 'remembering the events' as would a detective following clues.

Why The Flip Side? Passion is the first thing and power is the second. Passion for a group of women in dedication and creation of something that has always been a men's thing. And the power to show the world that we exist and we can. Women can be moms but also creators and dreamers.
